Speech Therapy part 2

Jake had his evaluation for speech therapy and it appears that he qualifies.

She did several activities with him, listened to him make sounds and such. She believes that he has a slight apraxia of speech. Basically, his brain and mouth are missing a connection and so it is hard for him to form certain sounds, like "o" or "b".

Between her evaluation and the fact that while in the NICU he had therapists there working with him to get form a good seal around a bottle, she believes that this is what is wrong.

So where do we go from here.

Jake will be going to speech therapy twice a week for the next 3 months and then we will re-evaluate. At that time he will 2 and hopefully made some improvements.

With Apraxia of speech, my understanding (coming from Google) is that it is muscle memory. Once he can form those shapes and make the sounds, it is committed to memory and recalled when needed. Its just a matter of teaching him how to make those shapes with his mouth.

No serious delay's other than not having 15 words, we caught it early.

Addy in all of this was refusing to nap for the babysitter, so 2 toddlers with no naps today lead to cranky babies this evening. So I escaped to the gym for Zumba and left Andy to feed the kids.
