I outsmarted Jake

Victory. Its sweet.

When we transitioned the kids to their big kid beds a couple of months ago, I put a baby gate up at their doorway so no children could escape to the playroom at 3am to play.

This past month, we have started taking the baby gate down once they were asleep. However over the past couple of weeks I have noticed a trend that Jake was getting up earlier and earlier each morning.

Now, my kids typically sleep til 7am, something I enjoy because then I get to sleep longer.

Yesterday however, Jake was up at 6am.

He got up, turned on the tv to watch cartoons. He was up to tell Andy bye. That's too early.

So this morning, the baby gates stayed up and both kids slept til 720.

Addy wakes up early with help from Jake and then she is cranky and has to cuddle in the bed with me while we watch cartoons until Good Morning America comes on at 7.

Then I get ditched because the news isn't interesting.

Oh well. I'm barely staying one step ahead of them, that's all that matters.

back at it

I worked out this morning. I haven't worked out since just after the 5K at the beginning of September while I recovered from my injury.

And it sucked.

Big time.

We had a nice cold front more through last night and it is now 46 degree, perfect running weather (as long as we are all bundled up). But then common sense told me that it was a stupid idea to just jump back into running and risk another injury.

So I'm starting back on the 30 day shred for the rest of this week, next week I'll try to hit the gym and the elliptical and maybe come November, start running again.

Its a slow process, but what else can I do?

Pumpkin patch

We hit the pumpkin patch last night. And really, it wasn't a pumpkin patch.

Its the farm where we buy local produce and ocassionally beef and we asked over the summer and they try every year to grow pumpkins and they refuse to grow. They just truck them in instead.

But they did have a huge corn maze, I heard several people say they turned around and didn't finish. We did a "mini" corn maze. It was just an easier maze and not as large. The kids loved running through that thing!

Jake led the way while Addy follwed Jake and I and Andy brought up the rear making sure we didn't lose anyone. The kids got to play on tricycles (Santa may be bringing one), see piglets, ride on a cow train, and run around.

They seemed very much like the big kids last night.

thinking about closing up shop

I'm thinking of stopping the blog.

I struggle to find the time and honestly most people reading it are on my Facebook or in the family. It was a great way to follow the pregnancy and the first 2 years of Jake and Addy. So I'm going to turn it into a blurb book so I can still look at them and show the kids what they were like. We'll see, like I said I'm thinking about it.

Turkey shirt

Pinterest has added so many things to my DIY list.

I saw on there a turkey machine applique using ribbon for the feathers. Well because I am cheap and refuse to buy the pattern, I decided to make my own. I had all the supplies on hand so I had to go shopping for nothing, always a plus!

I cut 8 strips of fall colored ribbon 5-6" and arranged them like I liked. I then used a salon clip to hold them in place while I put a couple of stitches in to keep them from shifting.

I free handed a turkey shape on to fabric and cut it out. Because I had no brown fabric I went with this plaid, cut it out and didn't like it. So I went digging in the kids out grown clothes and came across a brown knit jumper and re-cut the turkey.

I put a little bit of spray adhesive on on the ribbon where they all overlapped just to hold it in place until I could sew it. I hand sewed some eyes and the nose on the brown fabric and when spray adhesive that to the shirt.
I zig-zagged around the larger part of the body and then just a straight stitch around the head and the ribbon.

It was so simple and easy to make, the most time consuming part was the nose and eyes. All in all, 30mins, no pattern.

Now I need to design a boys turkey shirt for Jake and I think I know what I'm going to do.
