Mommy is traumatized

The kids had their 2 month checkup today and let me just say, thank goodness Andy was able to go; I had to use the other kid to block my view while they got their shots.

Addy is tipping the scales at 10lbs 12 oz so 5.5lbs since birth and 22 inches; 19% for height and 30% for weight

Jake is further behind at 9lbs 10oz and 21.5 inches, he is just barely on the growth charts at 3% for his weight and <3%>

Jake's ear infection as cleared up, thank goodness, no more antibiotics for now, he does have a rash on his face nothing bad the doctor just wants to see if some cream will clear it up. He said they both have great head control for their age, YAY!

Now for the shots, Jake went first and took the oral vaccine pretty well, but then he saw the needle and Andy says he lost it then, poor kid is going to be traumatized by his NICU stay for the rest of this life. But then he got his Daffy Duck band aids and Andy picked him up and cuddled with him he stopped crying and just had the sniffles.

Addy I really thought was going to be the screamer, but she of course had no problem taking the oral vaccine, she thought it was food, and gave a couple of good screams with the needles and by the time band aids had been applied, she was quiet. The both ended up drifting off to sleep a few minutes later.

The kids were also invited to be part of a study by the Synagis Corp. that makes the RSV vaccine. Because the kids had to have been born by 34weeks 6 days and they came at 35 weeks 2 days, they do not qualify for this shot. So the company is doing a study that is compiling information about late- pretermers, Jake and Addy, and how they handle RSV season which is September-May. There is no medicine involved nor compensation except for a goodie bag with a blanket and book, but the kids just have to go to the doctor whenever they are sick (like we wouldn't take our kids to the doctor when they are sick), and if there is any respiratory problems or coughing, they will test for RSV with a nasal swab. We figure if they catch RSV then this will help us get it diagnosed quicker since it will be the first thing they check for. Then there is final checkup in June at the conclusion of the study, of course if we had co-pays it would cost us that, but since we don't have copays it literally is free. And even though it won't help our kids, it may help other kids that are in the same situation.

So for now the kids are asleep, we got home and fed them and they went back out. Jake has been fussing when he moves his legs and it was warm to the touch so I gave him some Tylenol that will hopefully help the discomfort. Addy is just excited that we are letting her sleep.

Oh, we DON'T have to go on lockdown this season because of RSV/flu/cold which means we get to come home at Christmas! It was always up in the air because of Jake's issue early on with his lungs, but we got the green light today, just make sure nonsick people are the only ones holding and we are washing hands, commonsense stuff.
